Mr. S. M. Moniruzzaman joined Bangladesh Bank as a Deputy Governor on December 4, 2016 (afternoon) for three years tenure. As the Deputy Governor he is entrusted with the responsibilities of overseeing the activities of Off-site & On site Supervision of the Banks and Non-Bank financial Institutions, Department of Financial Institutions & Market, Agricultural Credit Department, Financial Sector Support and Strategic Planning Department, Payment Systems Department, Department of Currency Management and so on. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and looked after the works of Agricultural Credit and Financial Inclusion Department, Banking Regulation and Policy Department, Equity Entrepreneurship Fund, Financial Integrity and Customer Services Department and so on. He was a director of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund and Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB). Furthermore, he was an observer of the Boards of three commercial banks.

Joining at Bangladesh Bank in 1984 as Officer Class-1, Mr. S. M. Moniruzzaman served in various Departments. He had been the General Manager of Agricultural Credit & Special Programme Department, Foreign Exchange Investment Department, Currency Management and Payment Systems Department. .

Mr. Moniruzzaman had completed his BA (Hons.) and MA in Economics from Rajshahi University, a renowned public university of Bangladesh. He also achieved Masters degree in Economics from Eastern Michigan University, USA.
During his more than 32 years of central banking career, he visited Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and USA to attend various courses, seminars and conferences.
